Program Overview

Our Blind Community Support Program addresses the urgent needs of approximately 20 visually impaired families (around 80 individuals) currently surviving through street begging in the Kathmandu Valley. We are establishing a permanent, eco-friendly residential facility on land owned by Compassion Nepal to provide comprehensive support including shelter, nutritious meals, quality education for children, and vocational skills training for adults. This flagship initiative will serve as a model for supporting handicapped individuals across Nepal, offering dignity, independence, and hope for a self-sufficient future. Our commitment to environmental sustainability means building with minimal carbon footprint, setting an example for compassionate care that respects both people and planet.

The Challenge

Twenty visually impaired families, including 12 families with children, currently depend on street begging for survival in the Kathmandu area. Children are often involved in this cycle of poverty, missing educational opportunities and facing an uncertain future. These families lack access to basic necessities, proper shelter, and the skills needed to achieve independence and dignity.

Our Comprehensive Solution

We are creating a permanent residential facility on land purchased by Compassion Nepal, ensuring long-term sustainability and security. Our holistic approach provides immediate relief through shelter and nutrition while building pathways to independence through education and vocational training. Children will receive quality education to break the cycle of poverty, while adults learn adaptive skills suited for the visually impaired, enabling them to earn dignified livelihoods.

Environmental Commitment

As part of our commitment to global sustainability, this facility will be constructed with minimal carbon footprint using eco-friendly materials and renewable energy sources. We aim to set a precedent for environmentally conscious humanitarian work, proving that caring for people and protecting our planet can go hand in hand.

A Model for the Future

This initiative serves as the foundation for expanding support to other handicapped individuals across Nepal who lack proper care and are living on the streets. By establishing this permanent facility, we create a replicable model that can grow to serve more vulnerable populations, offering hope and practical support to those most in need throughout the nation.
